WINTER LEAGUE

Based in and around the Wear Valley, our club provides a wide range of activities for riders of all abilities - from beginners to serious competitors - as well as a variety of social events.

The club was founded in 1989, and now has members from as far afield as Ireshopeburn, Washington, and Newcastle. We have a year-round programme of activities, including fun rides, training, visits and talks, and social activities such as barbecues, visits to the races, and even bowling.

We run regular training sessions, with expert instructors, covering everything from cross-country to dressage to music. They range from introductory sessions to new disciplines for beginners to clinics with specialist instructors. Our teams compete throughout the area, and have represented the region successfully in national competitions - in 2004 we became equitation jumping champions and the 2005 season culminating in our Rural Riders team winning the national Riding Club championships in Lincoln.

Well Done to our very own Linda Davis, who won the Medium Dressage at the Riding Club National Championships. Linda was also placed second in the Novice Dressage and won her riding test arena.

The Riding test team of Linda, Joanne Jones, Lynne Bradwell and Julia Hather came 6th, with Lynne placed 9th placed in her arena.

The Prelim dressage team of Joanne Pinkney, Julia Hather, Shelley Routledge and Daniel Malkin all performed well but were unplaced.

Also a huge well done to the Bishops dressage team who won the Area 2 Mary Barrass charity dressage. The team were Julia Hather, Joanne Pinkney, Lynne Bradwell and Joanne Jones. Our other Bishops team were placed 6th with Michelle Harwood, doing her first ever test, Dawn Emerson, Jean Welsh and Jemma Woods.
